Cost of Living
What's the issue? How far household income can stretch to cover the price of everyday goods and services — food, rent, fuel, bills. This includes subsidies (e.g. petrol & diesel), price controls, minimum wage and taxation (SST).
Why it matters: This is the issue closest to people's daily lives. When prices rise faster than wages, purchasing power falls — and it hits low-income households & young people just entering the workforce hardest.
Questions to ask:
- What is the concrete plan to control the cost of living — beyond occasional cash handouts?
- How will subsidy policy be managed so it is well-targeted & sustainable?
- What steps will raise incomes, rather than just suppress prices?
⚖️ Issue 02
Corruption & Integrity
What's the issue? How transparently and accountably public money & power are managed. This includes transparency in government procurement, the independence of bodies like the MACC, political financing, and asset declarations by elected representatives.
Why it matters: Every ringgit lost to corruption is a ringgit that should have gone to schools, hospitals and roads. Corruption erodes public trust in government and deters investment.
Questions to ask:
- What concrete commitments exist for transparency — e.g. a political financing act or asset declarations?
- Is the anti-corruption body given genuine independence?
- How will government procurement & contracts be made more open?
🎓 Issue 03
Education
What's the issue? The quality & equity of education from primary school through university — including curriculum, teacher quality, the urban–rural gap, TVET (skills training), and the cost of higher education (e.g. PTPTN loans).
Why it matters: Education determines the opportunities of the next generation. A good system narrows gaps; a weak one entrenches them.
Questions to ask:
- How will the quality & equity of rural schools be improved?
- What is the direction for TVET & skills relevant to the job market?
- How will the burden of higher education costs & student debt be eased?
💼 Issue 04
Economy & Jobs
What's the issue? Economic growth, creating well-paid jobs, currency stability, investment, and the future of work for young people — including wages that don't keep up with living costs & the gig economy.
Why it matters: A strong economy means more opportunity, better pay and a more secure future — especially for fresh graduates & young workers.
Questions to ask:
- What is the plan to create high-paying jobs, not merely more jobs?
- How are gig economy & informal sector workers protected?
- What is the strategy to attract investment without neglecting local workers?
🌏 Issue 05
Environment & Climate
What's the issue? Climate change, increasingly frequent floods, pollution, forest & water resource management, and the transition to renewable energy.
Why it matters: Major floods and extreme weather affect homes, the economy and lives. Energy & environmental decisions made today determine the Malaysia the younger generation inherits.
Questions to ask:
- What is the concrete flood mitigation & climate adaptation plan?
- How will the transition to renewable energy be carried out?
- How is development balanced against forest & water conservation?
🏥 Issue 06
Healthcare
What's the issue? Access to & quality of public healthcare, the workload of healthcare workers, the cost of private treatment, mental health, and pandemic preparedness.
Why it matters: An accessible health system protects everyone — regardless of income. It is the most basic safety net a country has.
Questions to ask:
- How will the public health system be strengthened & funded?
- What steps will address the workload & welfare of healthcare workers?
- Is mental health given proper priority & funding?
🤝 Issue 07
Unity & Inclusivity
What's the issue? How a Malaysia of many races, religions & cultures lives together fairly & equitably — including national unity, the treatment of marginalised groups, persons with disabilities, and the communities of Sabah & Sarawak.
Why it matters: Diversity is Malaysia's strength, but it must be managed fairly. Racial & divisive rhetoric can damage harmony that took generations to build.
Questions to ask:
- What policies will foster unity without marginalising any group?
- How are the rights & welfare of marginalised groups & persons with disabilities protected?
- How will the claims & development of Sabah & Sarawak be handled fairly?
🏛️ Issue 08
Institutional Reform
What's the issue? Strengthening democratic institutions — e.g. the independence of Parliament & the judiciary, term limits, the Anti-Party Hopping Act, press freedom, and electoral reform.
Why it matters: Strong institutions ensure power is not abused and that representatives remain accountable — no matter who is in government. This is the foundation of a healthy, durable democracy.
Questions to ask:
- What commitments exist to strengthen the independence of Parliament & the judiciary?
- How will electoral & political financing reform be continued?
- Will press freedom & the right to speak be protected?
